 David R Ross 1958-2010

My good friend of 14 years, David R Ross, author and historian, died suddenly of a heart attack on 2nd January 2010.

I posted the message below on the Memorial Book at Albannach website ...

What will we do without our Guardian of Scotland? David was the William Wallace of his time. He kept us going through dark times. He always kept faith in his fellow Scots. Always believed they would come to acknowledge who they truly were if they were only given back their history. And that's what he did for us. Gave us back our history. David's name will go down in Scotland's history. No one deserves it more.

Alex Salmond, First Minister of Scotland paid tribute to David, saying ...

David Ross was a tremendous enthusiast for all things Scottish, and in particular for the memory of William Wallace.
Among David's outstanding contributions to the wider understanding of Scotland's history was his leadership of the commemorative march to London in 2005.
Those of us who attended and contributed to the service at St Bartholomew's at Smithfield in London experienced an occasion as memorable as a state funeral and as moving as a personal testament.

I attended the memorial service for David at South Lanarkshire Crematorium, Blantyre, on 11th January 2010, where a tremendous turnout of family and friends gathrered to remember David.

At the end of the service, with everyone in tears, the Bay City Rollers "Shang-a-Lang" struck up .... so David ...
