SLAUGHTER AT THE STADIUM 26th May 2007, Falkirk

The theme of the 2007 Falkirk Libraries Readers’ Day was crime writing, and featured myself and two other modern Scottish crime writers of the “Tartan Noir” style, Alex Gray and Stuart MacBride.
Dr John Clark, the eminent forensic pathologist from University of Glasgow provided the true life perspective.

The event was chaired by the popular broadcaster Brian Marjoribanks.

This was my first visit to the new Falkirk Stadium, and I was very impressed with the facilities. There was a great turnout, and the panel were kept busy all afternoon. I tried not to wilt, having got back from 10 days at the Cannes Film Festival at 2am.

I know John Clark from the forensics course at University of Glasgow. Alex is a great friend, and Alex, Stuart and I were on a panel together at the 2005 Edinburgh Book Festival. So I was among friends, which made for relaxed discussions ...  even when John Clark helpfully chose to read out sections from our books, humorously comparing fiction with reality.

In the photo below it looks like we're wondering who's going to take the free kick ...
